Generating Ideas;
Free association is a valuable tool in finding how one's own brain is connected. One does not need new words to consider one has generated an idea. Ideas/meaning come from phonemes, syllables, "bases" (roots) prefixes and suffixes. No critic by definition adds to the generating of ideas. It is considered two different areas, "conflicting regions," regions defined as location, combinations of neurotransmiiters call it "areas" as a model, starting w/ phrenology. A given day,time for free associating can produce different results. It does not "matter." The point is to have a product, a yield of words that indicates where your brain was at on time. More and more of this practice brings insights, to you and your writing, a "diary/journal" of your life in a moment in time. This is fun to do w/ a friend who knows you. Let them generate the initial word, then it is your turn. Alternatively make/create a list of your own. Take your time w/ the process of giving your first response, take time, point being to find the depth of your mind. Move along w/ it at a rate that works for you. Quantity first, quality follows. This is a think tank exercise. Yield the product!
One might choose words from an outline and a sketch for a book, fictional/nonfictional. You can associate the collection of words in an order that fits your manuscript. Three pages of word groups, mind maps, outlines are a decent goal in your writing session. Reap the benefits/purposes.
What comes first, the chicken, the egg? Your set of words, the power words for your project surfaces from the depths of your mind. The idea for a book gerates its list? Or ... the ideas from your list geenrates/yields your manuscript. The one thing that I would like to add for a spirituality view. One has the option to call your project a ... project, manuscript, and book. Define and use the appropriate expression. More importantly is the difference of a manuscript at its several stages and a book, that is a book of perhaps a respective edition. A project is a project, containing both constructs, ms. and book. More generally an expression a project can be an organic and as well a linear thing. Recommended it is a good practice to redefine words beyond the norm, personally personalizing your expressions. This gives you a sense of describing ideas that bring a clarity in communication; you as the writer, they as the reader. You want an effect of desription that will allow the reader or film habitue to say because of your description work/labor the book was better than the movie. Although they are two beasts, problems in their own right. If in doubt desribe over the brink now; cut later.
Think Tanks;
I was in a think tank of sorts, less than half a dozen people. We were in the dissertation stage mostly following a thread of logic for seven years, fourteen semesters, an hour of contact time each week. Persistence in an ethical manner brought much fruit to the yield. Stick to it-ness was a lesson, a meta-lesson. It was surprising in a high brow attitude manner. Surprising? The skills, developing talent, and amount of material made one "invincible" as a motivating factor in tackling long, hard projects w/ such a basis; Sharing the experience made it much more palatable. It was easier to call my writing buddy to meet at the cafe and write. Going alone is not always the best option. A committee of one is not always the best companion, and could even be dangerous. It is like the cultural belief that study is best shared, otherwise the student is consumed, a brain fever case. Writing is sharing. It is something one can learn at this school, Purple Goat. One can say, "I learned sharing." We are in a new Communication/Information Age. The reality is in awareness, the "seeing the description object." One can also practice visualizing, seeing, playing w/ alternative views. This is how a cast gets formed, a list of characters. Reality often needs more than one perspective, a paraphrase of Dr. D. Viscott. They can be real. They can be imaginary. Both serve a purpose. Find out by experimenting on your own. What is there left to lose? A few digital storage space folders, at little cost? A little constructive well-spent time any way?
Free of Wet Blamkets;
If you are going to generate new ideas, then be ready for the wet blanket Martians. You will see some. Anything new can be threatening. Don't let it be you. Remember you could be very vulnerable. Don't get suckered in. The wet blanket control freak wants you to be suffering, insecure, confused. This is a bad place to be. Any one person who can make you doubt yourself (You let it happen.) can control you.
The cure? Get back on the horse and write, create, give the bastard a show. We get better by practice, by creating. They will get bitter. It is a bittersweet situation. Diversification, differences make us well-grounded.
Go to it!!!
